Practice Guidelines
Practice guidelines are documents that outline the licensed practical nurse’s accountability in specific practice contexts. They reflect relevant legislation and are designed to help licensed practical nurses understand their responsibilities and legal obligations so they can make safe and ethical nursing decisions. Practice guidelines are designed to be used in conjunction with Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics and with all practice guidelines and position statements found on the College website at www.clpnns.ca.

Position Statements
Position statements are documents that reflect the view taken by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Nova Scotia about a particular nursing or health care issue, trend and/or external stakeholder policy. Their purpose is to help licensed practical nurses understand the College’s position on these issues.  Position statements are designed to be used in conjunction with Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics and with all practice guidelines and position statements found on the College website at www.clpnns.ca.

Practice Memos
Practice Memos are intermittent notifications of updates or changes in practice, policy or guidelines.

Practice Support and Other Guidelines for LPNs
Guidelines are documents intended to provide general guidance, instruction and direction to LPNs so that they may make informed decisions. Guidelines support  professional judgment and permit flexible decision-making in practice.
