Employers are accountable to ensure LPNs have the necessary access to support, information, resources and opportunities to provide safe, competent, ethical and compassionate nursing services. Occasionally, in meeting this obligation, employers must implement a practice plan to help an LPN to overcome professional practice issues (PPIs). The College Professional Conduct Process is in place to address concerns about LPNs professional practice which cannot be successfully managed by the employer.
The decision tree can guide decisions around managing PPIs. All PPIs require employer some intervention prior to initiating the professional conduct process. The depth and breadth of the employer intervention will be in context to the nature of the PPI. Initiating the professional conduct process without an employer intervention may slow the process or impact the outcome.
